Budgeting Bloggers: August Budget
Budgeting Bloggers, hosted by Fran, is a great way to hold myself accountable for my clothing purchases each month. It helps to track my spending habits, identify trends, and streamline my wardrobe with more intention. Check out what other bloggers purchased this month! I know, I know. It's almost October. But hey, better late than never right? Let's entitle this post "The Month Marissa Bought Five Dresses." Yep. You heard correctly. Five. A little ridiculous, maybe--okay, a lot ridiculous, but it was worth it! Here's what I was able to snag this August: Goodwill: J. Crew Navy and White Striped Dress - $4.24 (worn here) Forever 21 Heart Navy Dress - $7.64 Target GT Long Tee $4.49 You've all seen the J. Crew dress and expressed your shock over me finding it at Goodwill and for such a good price and I've already worn it a few times, making it a completely justified purchase. The Forever 21 dress is a great going-out dress that I can definitely see myself wearing year round with or without tights and layers. It'll be fun to show you (and ask for ideas on) ways I've styled it. Also, the tee is great because it is long enough to cover my butt without pulling in unflattering places, making it ideal for leggings. Hello, comfort! T.J. Maxx: Anne Klein Aqua and Tangerine Print Dress - $34.95 Kohl's: ELLE Striped Eyelet Fit and Flare Dress - $25.49 (on sale now) I went on a dress spree mostly because I was heading to Chicago (and then later Dallas) for work and didn't really have any summer business clothes that were easy to travel with--hence these two purchases. I'm really happy with these dresses and feel I will get many wears out of them. White House Black Market: Genius Convertible Fit and Flare Burgundy Dress - originally $130.00 - paid $91.00
My future sister-in-law Kate and I at her bachelorette party! TWO WEEKS to go!
You guys know me well enough to know that I don't buy things full-price and it takes a lot for me to buy things over like...$50. So you may be as shocked as I was that I ended up purchasing this dress. While absolutely fabulous, it was definitely pricey and not exactly on my "need" pile. However, I've often mentioned my goal to purchase fewer high-quality items that I will wear over and over and remix for many years to come. This is definitely one of those purchases. Given that it is an infinity dress, meaning it can be worn several different ways, I felt like I was buying two or more dresses. I was in love with the color and the fit and felt amazing in it and I just knew I couldn't leave without it in my hand. And I'm thrilled I took the plunge! I wore it to my future sister-in-law's bachelorette party and already have two more events to wear it to in the next two weeks. I am looking forward to remixing it for both casual and dressy looks. On another note, I originally ended up paying $114 (which is still better than the original $130 price tag), but was able to snag it for $91 after a series of both unfortunate and fortunate events. More on this later!
Total Spent in August: $167.85 Overall, not terribly shabby considering that I got FIVE dresses out of the deal, especially after a pretty inexpensive July. I'm curious as to how I will feel about going shopping once I get into my fall clothes. Will I feel like I need a bunch of new things or will I be satisfied with what I have? What about you? Are you really enjoying the clothes you already have or do you feel like you need an overhaul?
Hey, before you go...
