Sunday Best: v. 11: A New Way to Style Too-Tight Tees

Please tell me I'm not the only one who owns cotton tees that are just a little too snug, maybe from the wash or maybe because you bought them slightly too small, but you just can't bring yourself to get rid of it because who likes buying basics? So maybe I've narrowed my audience down to a few lone people, but hey ladies, this post is for YOU! Welcome. Thanks for coming. There's buffalo chicken dip in the family room. Help yourself!

Anyway. I bought a "Blog So Hard" tee from Whitney's blog I Wore Yoga Pants to Work during the first month she started selling fabulous blog t-shirts back in November. I ordered a size small and really should have sized up and ordered a medium. My pride (and my wallet) said I needed to suck it up (or in) and wear it anyway. Remember this look?

Ahhh layers. Wearing it under a blazer made it a little easier to hide the fact that it was probably a little snug.

After a few washes, this cotton tee looks perfect for an American Girl Doll. Alright, so I'm exaggerating, but it was about time I get a little creative and figure out a new way to style a too-tight tee. Here's what I came up with:

Layer a graphic tee over a patterned dress and finish with a knot for an easy summer look

Layer a snug tee over a dress and knot at the waist

Tee: I Wore Yoga Pants to Work Dress: Pavement Sandals: TJ Maxx Earrings: NY & Co.

By layering the tee over a dress and knotting it at the waist, I was able to create a slim, casual summer look, perfect for a hot Sunday out and about. Obviously, layering a tight tee over just any ol' dress won't work, so aim for ones without any embellishments or extra fabric at the top and one that will do well from the waist down. I suggest any fit and flares or defined-waist dresses. This is where you can have loads of fun with patterns, colors, and textures! Give it a try to see what works for you. Other options could be belting instead of typing into a knot, tucking into a high-waisted skirt or pair of pants, and--gasp--cutting into a CLASSY crop top (but be very careful with this! Cut too much off and you've lost your tee).
