A Few of My Favorite Things
Decorating the Christmas tree is one of my favorite traditions every holiday season. Every year, I turn on the same Christmas CDs we always listen to, dim the lights, and make my parents (and if my brother is in town, him too) trim the tree together as a family. I am sure I am biased, but I love my family tree so much and think it's one of the most beautiful I've seen. It's full of memories and love that I wouldn't trade for anything. Even though the trees you see at the department stores are so gorgeous with their matching bulbs and ornaments, I love trees that have homemade and purchased ornaments from childhood and from relatives and trips--ones that have memories attached to them. These may not be the most perfectly decorated trees, but they are the most stunning in my eyes.
In honor of it being only FIFTEEN DAYS until Christmas, I thought I would share a few of my favorite ornaments from the tree, some of the ones I most look forward to hanging up every year. I would LOVE to see some of your favorites, too, so feel free to link up your own post! Do you have any similar ornaments on your tree?
1. The Family Ornament
This is probably my favorite ornament because it preserves my family as it was for over two decades of my life. While I am beyond thrilled to have a future sister-in-law and will hopefully have a husband one day, there's something very special about the four of us. We may all live in our own places now, but this ornament brings me back to my most treasured Christmas memories.
2. The personalized ornament
My brother and I received these name ornaments from my Aunt Cathy and Uncle Rusty and we love them! They're really heavy and great quality, so we always took special care of them when we would hang them. No one else was allowed to hang OUR ornaments :P Does anyone else get all uppity about how they hang ornaments on the tree?
3. The Baby Ornament
Inside this charming little stocking are three pictures of my brother and I when we were babies. Presh, I know.
4. The Homemade Ornament
Yes, that's me in Preschool. What happened, right? Anyway, I know that homemade ornaments usually fall apart or are pretty hideous, but I like 'em anyway!
5. The Gifted Ornament
Honestly, I find ornaments to be pretty special gifts. I always always always think of the person who gave certain ornaments to me, especially my grandma who sometimes gave Justin and I multiples of the same St. Nick ornament two years in a row. My forever roomie, Ali, made this for me and this is one of our FIRST pictures together in college our freshman year. I just love it.
6. The Hobby Ornament/ The Literary Ornament
Lastly, I couldn't leave out this literary number I made two years ago from a copy of Romanian fairy tales from Ollie's and some ModPodge and glitter. I love it because it represents me and my love of reading, writing, and discussing.
What does your tree look like? What is your decorating experience like? I'd love to hear all about it!
Also, in light of the title of this post, who had a chance to watch NBC's Sound of Music live with Carrie Underwood last Thursday? Oh man, the Twitterverse was going wild! I think following my newsfeed was more interesting than the show. I have to say my favorite actress in the whole cast was Elsa, played by the fabulous Laura Benanti. What did you think?
