The New Girl in Town
If you've been a reader for awhile, you'll already know that I'm the "new girl" in town, having moved three hours away from home to start my teaching career in a quaint Victorian town in central PA (I'm originally from Pittsburgh!). It has been a whirlwind of an experience and I still have much to get used to, but I try to find the positives in everyday life. One of the things I do enjoy is the charm of my new town. I love being able to walk around town, check out the Victorian architecture, and drive only about two miles to work every day.
When I came across StyleMint's Style for Your City contest, I originally thought how fun and unique of a contest it was. It is easy to be inspired by the world around us--especially in our own towns. Immediately the outfit I had already planned to wear the next day fit perfectly. Being just miles out of Penn State, the navy and white polka-dotted skirt was a natural pick and the bow-tie blouse is a nod to the Victorian roots of my new town. Yes, I could enter this contest!
But the voice inside my head said "Oh, but you're still a small blog--there's no way you should be participating in contests!" I didn't feel like I belonged in such a contest. On top of that, one of my favorite bloggers Fran is already participating (and kicking butt none the less! She rocks!). I didn't think I could or should be "competing" against one of my inspirations.
But I decided to step out on a limb and try. I'm learning that in order to claim the life you want, you must take risks and put yourself out there. And this is just a small step in that direction.
So. Might you take a minute and consider voting for me? Voting is open until April 17th! I greatly appreciate your support. It means the world to me!
Have you ever seen Hairspray? I just love the song "The New Girl in Town." And now it's stuck in your head. You're welcome! :)
