If you've read my About Me page, you'll know that I recently made the move to Central PA in late August. Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard all about the Jerry Sandusky case and, most recently, his sentence. Now, I will NOT discuss this issue via my blog, but I thought I would share a snapshot (or six) of what it's like now that I live here. I was able to capture some of the chaos of the sentencing on Monday after school and thought I would share what everything looks like from a media point of view.
The area around the courthouse is a small downtown, so when numerous media trucks crowd it, it affects all traffic. Luckily I was at school when everything occurred, so this was all I saw in the aftermath. I'm pretty sure I walked by every major newscaster from each of those channels, putting on their makeup and fixing their hair before the six o'clock news. And yes, I was that girl, taking pictures of everything and anything (with my Camera+ app, of course!).
Other than this change in pace, the only other major event of this week that I documented was Tuesday night's boys soccer game. My senior students convinced me that I HAD to go to their senior night and I'm really glad I did.
I hadn't been to a soccer game since probably middle school, so I completely forgot how awesome it is! I really enjoyed seeing my students at their very best, scoring goals left and right and winning 6-0. I am proud to be their teacher.
I also kept thinking about how extracurricular activities were extremely vital to my high school and college experiences. I would NOT be the person I am today without all of the meetings, events, opportunities, and people I encountered from those organizations. It makes me so happy to see it continue in the lives of these kids.
Happy Friday, everyone :) I'm spending mine in the very best way: with my family and Aaron!
